Do you fear the truth?

Do you fear the truth?

It seems to me that we have developed a fear of truth.

On LinkedIn in particular, I have noticed that contains provocative content gets no interaction.

While LinkedIn promotes posts on an algorithmic basis, it is hard to be sure what is really popular and what is being promoted/demoted by an obscure bias. (I believe it is Dave Trott, advertising guru, who said words to the effect that algorithms are nothing but codified bias.)

But, even allowing for algorithmic interference, I have noticed this peculiar phenomena that when content is contentious - and by contentious I mean anything that runs against the prevailing mainstream progressive narrative (pro climate change, diversity, abortion etc) - no one dares to comment, like or share.

Logic dictates that:

  • on average any particular person’s posts would get the same level of interaction across a normal distribution curve

  • people would hold a range of opinions on any topic

But this does not happen on LinkedIn. (Unlike FB, where people seem to comment and otherwise participate in contentious topics.) It seems that the difference may be that LI is a career-orientated site and people are more inclined to consider the impact on their careers when they do post here.

And no one dares to say anything that runs counter to the prevailing dogma. To echo Trump; this is SAD.

Why are people afraid to speak their minds? Presumably, you believe the opinions that you hold to be rational and true, so does that mean you are afraid to speak the truth? Is it because of the punitive approach the progressive ‘cloud’ people adopt when it comes to people who disagree with them? Are you afraid of your career?

If you are lying to yourself about what you believe is true, what else are you lying about?  If you are prepared to lie to yourself, are you prepared to lie to anyone?

If you are not willing to stand up for what you believe in, what WILL you stand up for? If you are not willing to stand up for what you believe in, are you worth employing?

“In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”

George Orwell
